The Spotted Towhee is nefariously difficult to photograph. Spending its time on the ground in the underbrush makes it a challenge, but the photo gods opened their hearts and gave me a clean shot.

Book haul from Elliott Bay Books and Charlie’s Queer Books! Not bad for a Saturday. Have you read any of these?

Have you met a red crossbill before? Allow me to introduce you!

A composition at 75mm I wouldn’t have normally considered, but I like it and I’m not sure why.

-Better living Through Birding: 6/10. It felt like he wrote more about working for Marvel Comics than birding.
-Providence: 6.5/10. Writing is just ok, not bad, not great. Definitely not a thriller. Ending is pinched.
-…lose the time war: starting tonight! Have you read it?

Close up to panorama. I am at my happiest standing at this spot.

Weekend well spent, but it will almost certainly take me a year to get around to the photos. Who else takes forever to edit?

There’s something a little witchy about this short eared owl 🤔

What a beautiful place.

Have you taken the ferry to Bainbridge island? It’s $10 to cross on foot and last about 30 ish minutes. It’s the best way to get photos of the Seattle skyline!

4 hours of birding at the Theler Wetlands in Belfair this morning. Have you been? What an amazing spot!

The three stooges or three very hungry little feather-hippos? Momma bird swooped in and fed each swallow one after the other, taking only seconds. I had to stand for a good 30 min to time my shots.

Weekend plans? These were all shot in August, in Leavenworth at one of the largest fish hatcheries in the world.

How comfortable does everyone feel sharing photos here knowing how easy it is for anyone to save them to their phone?

The benefits of living in a city by the sea, with a 30 min ferry ride to Bainbridge Island that runs exactly at sunset. I shot everything on the Leica M11P and 75 1.4 Summilux. Have you taken this trip?

Mentally I’m here right now. Bonus points if you know the shorebird pictured!

Short eared owls are diurnal, meaning they hunt in daylight hours. They can stop and make a 90 degree turn straight down in mid flight, which is insane, and hiss/bark when in conflict with one another (or a harrier hawk trying to crowd their hunting area).
