It's also the fact that uk is failing in its #TCA obligations to follow and comply with EU regulations.

Instantly (almost) banned in EU but uk licences/approves forever

his type makes my blood boil. languishing in a plush French chateau.
Like vampires & sunlight - the moment his car stalled is funny.

I wonder if the UK will ever abolish the monarchy?

Ireland is far from neutral renate. They let USA weapons, troops & rendition flights through Shannon, were one of the most vocal in the EU against israel and allows the RAF to use Irish airspace to defend their left flank.

That piece in the FT is embarrassing to read for me as a brit.

Yes but with limitations.

Their entry into the customs union was expected to be a step toward full EU membership, but their accession negotiations have been suspended.

I was on the fringes of the talks in Brussels during brexit negotiations and I would agree with that.

Simon Coveney, in particular, was seen as a very astute and shrewd diplomat. Leo Varadkar also. both are very highly regarded.

The opposite is true for NI politicians.

Gerry Adams retired in 2020 and had nothing to do with brexit negotiations.

He also had nothing to do with the NI assembly. He was an elected TD of Dail Eireann in Dublin.

thanks. As a brit it frightens me how many other brits are unaware to the facts of colonial days.

the NI border was designed specifically to keep a pro british majority.
1. It will be "unaligned" voters, not green or orange that will decide the border poll.

Plus, gone are the days where the "in-built Unionist majority", in NI, determined the future for residents there as if it was a "democratic vote".

as this BBC journalist explains beautifully.

Well, that's the contentious bit. We did exactly what Putin just did in occupied parts of Ukraine i.e. designed a faux election border that guaranteed a british majority for the north east corner of Ireland.

this BBC journalist explains very well.

Are you unaware we partitioned Ireland into Northern Ireland and the RoI?
November 26, 2025 at 10:24 AM
The british are the separatists in Ireland Andrew.

We partitioned the island of Ireland just over 100 years ago and we have 101+ years of data on how disastrous that has been.

The rest of Ireland lives in peace, has a modern democracy and is booming economically.

Why object to reunification?

As a Brit, "Blanche Dubois defence policy - relying on the kindness of neighbours" is my favourite description of it.

For those who don't know, we, the UK, are largely the reason Ireland leans so heavily towards neutrality.
November 25, 2025 at 4:06 PM
Ireland doesn't share a border with Russia, like Sweden & Finland do.

Nor is Ireland like the Swiss, who share a border with countries that were almost perpetually at war.

I don't agree with Irelands neutrality stance but punching down like this or comparing apples with oranges is not helpful.
