I was struggling to think of a neat little answer to this, because Val'dran is... multi-faceted and a very silly man. But @claidikey.bsky.social made a *fantastically* funny VP that does a good job!

Val'dran has never really been taught much in the way of a trade - he was raised a drow noble, meant to be a warrior, a weapon. But he does spend some time nowadays on all manner of things, and he does *write* a lot.
He has actually gone undercover as a scrivener once or twice.

One could perhaps consider Val'dran's constant lying something of a vice - he does find himself doing so even when it's not strictly necessary.
Beyond that, well, he can be callous. Oh, and then there's the murdering and sabotaging thing, which could be bad. And he's *petty* ❤️

Compliments from strangers is common enough, but Val'dran never ceases being suspicious of their motives, responding either with a slanted look or a brief, insincere smile.
If it's from people he cares for though, there's high chance of a flush over cheeks and ears, and a long stare.

Val'dran is in no way sociable. Reticent and anxious, he prefers to keep to himself and the few people he enjoys being around.
That said, he's also a spy with high deception and persuasion. So long as he plays a role, it's easy to be charming and social. But tiring, beneath it.

Val'dran might show up, though he's not sure he's really meant to be there.
Still, skulking about the edges of Elegy's party, he slips by to offer her a trinket that is perhaps impersonal, but hopefully useful - a miniature compass set in a necklace he's found.

Val'dran isn't good with comforting others. He's not even good with comforting himself.
He might offer something edible though. His mint leaves, if he has enough to share. And sit nearby if his presence seems... appreciated. He can't say he understands it, but if it helps...

There is no returning to rest if Val'dran has woken from a nightmare. Heart pounding, the anxiety is by far too strong to manage.
He chews on mint, goes walking, tries to find something to *do* that has value, purpose. Something to focus on so he stops *thinking*. Stops fearing.

Val'dran doesn't sleep. He's careful with his trance. Yet sometimes he's too tired. Sometimes dread and memories mingle together to create something new and worse.
What if he had not been able to flee? What if his mother kept him, a miserable weapon? No drow left, only bloodthirst...

Val'dran doesn't have any particular dreams beyond continuing his work for Bregan D'aerthe, being valued. He's rather an unambitious drow, all told.
When it comes to actual dreaming, Val'dran does not sleep - and he spends his trance going over plans or recent events.

Val'dran prefers not to fight - he kills. Ambushes with a bow or a sneak attack with a short blade are by far his preference, with some sleeping poison if necessary.
As such, sparring is not particularly a thing he does. He actively avoids it, and is grumpy when convinced to.

Val'dran was working up by Luskan when he was nauti-napped. In the middle of brokering a deal for Bregan D'aerthe with some merchants, convincing them to sell to the mercenaries rather than who they were supposed to.
He and the merchants all got napped. Only he survived it.

When it comes to literal treats, Val'dran is particularly weak for mint chocolates, *especially* if it's creme de menthe involved.
In general though, being able to relax with a long bath, something good to eat, Sorn or Halsin or both to cuddle up to after... definitely a treat.

Perhaps not the *most* unexpected NPC, but unexpected nonetheless, Val'dran finds himself in the jungle with the cheery Klaus from the Circus 👀

Val'dran was born in 1332, making him 160 yrs old as of bg3. Considering drow can live for 700 easily and longer still with some shenanigans, he's essentially a young adult.
Though don't try to tell him he was only mature at 100, he was mature at 30 thanks very much. 1/2

Val'dran's name is put together of three elements from the drow naming table - Val-dar-aun. Darkness-voice-dance.
Altogether his mother decided it to mean "eloquent speaker of the darkness". Himself, he often describes it as meaning "sneaky liar". It's less pretentious.

While Val'dran isn't necessarily used to drinking everything, his alcohol tolerance is beyond the roof. His favourite drink is absinthe, and even still it takes two glasses to make him anywhere near tipsy.
Halsin thinks it's just as well, while Sorn pouts over never seeing him drunk 😂

Val'dran's dark side is very literal. Being part shadow demon, the demonic side takes over on occasion, bloodthirsty and malevolently playful.
Is it really a dark side though? While it seems a whole different personality, it's also just the same - and demon insists it's protecting.
