So happy for our clients. Their case lasted over five years including an appeal because of this admin's attacks on gender-based asylum claims. Incredible to see the expressions of happiness and relief flood the mother's face as her kids hugged her. Safe at last.

In other architecture news this week, I saw an article disparaging the Obama Presidential Library as the product of DEI. The architect, Billie Tsien, became a favorite of mine when she gave these remarks, which resonated with me & which I had the chance to lightly edit for publication.

So proud of our clinic's Equal Justice Works Fellow Danicole Ramos, who was invited to share the Message of Aloha at the Honolulu City Council's October meeting. Danicole has spent the last two years serving noncitizen veterans, who in HI are largely from the Filipino, COFA, and Latine communities.

Two years (lifetimes) ago, I attended a reception and talk at Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture & Design honoring an Artist-in-Residence, a seventh generation Afghan potter and a refugee. Posting this bc it was a nice memory & a pretty sunset.

I was surprised to hear ho'oponopono discussed in the show. As a lawyer in Hawai'i, I hear it mentioned mostly in the context of dispute resolution. Its invocation in a hospital - to assist a family in making and accepting a difficult end-of-life decision - was very moving.

So proud of my brilliant and hardworking staff attorneys, both badass Lawtinas, who won asylum for our client in Imm Ct today! Case involved gender based violence. Our client is now free to marry the person she loves and exercise control over her body. Classic & hopefully enduring American story.
