This is not how you say “Happy Pride”, SoCal Edison. Or happy anything.

Nothing like getting completely fucked over as summer swings in. I can’t even take on more Freelance work, because I need the damn computer for that.

Ugh, I am having a bad, bad, bad sugar craving but it's halfway through the month so I'm broke.

NYPD: we found a book called Moby Dick at the encampment, which is proof that the protesters are planning to ram the university with a whale.

churches have always been a key pillar in organizing for change. From immigrant protections to anti war to the civil rights movement and anti slavery.

“As He died to make men holy, Let us die to make men free”
It always makes me feel a little weird in leftist spaces knowing that so many others there are hostile to the faith that led me to join them

I'm a socialist because it seems like the best way to honor God, to me

C'est la guerre, one supposes
I went through a period between 14-17 where I was very devoutly religious, driven by the Christian beliefs that we shouldn't have rich people and should feed the hungry.

It just drove me nuts that the only response I could get was "no, that's communism, Jesus wouldn't have wanted communism."

After ages of being told “oh, you should read Dune since you like Tolkien” I finally have.

Jesus Christ. I love the world building and I can handle the dense prose, but Jesus Christ, is there even a momentary reprieve from the grimness?

This is awful and predictable.

The kind of parent who would raise this objection would:

(A) not want their child to develop the intellectual skills to recognize witch hunts; and
(B) as a subset, would not want their child to read the Crucible and think about the historical context of McCarthyism.
A teacher friend got an outraged parent call because they were studying "witchcraft" in class.

The assignment: The Crucible. The student clearly felt extreme guilt for even hearing "witchcraft," terrified she'd be indoctrinated.

I am BEGGING parents to please, trust the intelligence of your kids.

Nobody wants to see a 90 minute romcom starring me, least of all me.
Generative AI isn't just for predatory billionaires, it's also for hack directors who want to be able to exploit women from beyond the grave

A used bookstore / cafe / queer hangout space (I'd have to move somewhere a lot more queer friendly first, and lug all of my books along.)
ok friends & Bsky strangers, tell me your FRIVOLOUS Powerball-winning acquisition goal

Mine: a Studebaker that I’d take to the body shop for an Electric Mayhem paint job

Another person just mentioned a Linotype machine

sure, housing security, debt payoff, but what’s your ridiculous niche desire?

I had to stop reading this thread once I started hearing "Turkish delight" to the tune of "Afternoon Delight"
I don’t get why people feel like CS Lewis lied to them about Turkish delight. It’s something ONE kid enjoyed that was explicitly enchanted to make him crave more; it’s never actually held up as the best dessert ever, and Edmund even feels sick after eating it

So I just discovered For All Mankind and have been binging it all night.

I thought the most scandalous and jaw dropping part of this episode was going to be when the FLIGHT bypassed CAPCOM to speak directly to astronauts, something I don’t think I’ve EVER seen in a space show.

But no. That ending.

Updating my med list, and my phone autocorrected Hydralazine to Hydrazine. I think I'd have serious problems if I took 300mg of Hydrazine every day.

On the other hand, I might be able to fart myself into low-earth orbit, if I didn't die first.

A lot of Americans would barf on themselves if they had to come to terms with the fact that "just working harder" as a philisophy has nothing to do with personal financial gain and everything to do with ensuring billionaires can wring every last drop of labor out of you before you die.
