I wish Black people would ever get as much consideration as this white man on the run accused of heinous crimes is getting. 😮‍💨

Instead we get white fragility in the comments, in counter essays, in homes and voting booths, et cetera.

A comment I read this week named white fragility itself in a complaint, as us pathologizing white Americans (while ironically displaying the same fragility). It's just a name for the phenomenon

So you could actually make an argument that this instance was uniquely evil in its scope and aims and ongoing legacy in ways prior instances didn't.

All we ask is for white/Euro-Americans to acknowledge the systemic and structural consequences of all that and help dismantle it so we CAN move on.

The whole system was always designed to create and maintain an inescapable hereditary underclass, preventing any mobility.

(Srsly just go read Caste by Isabel Wilkerson already, she lays this out better than I ever could.)

Actually, that IS one unique difference about this instance of slavery.

In fact, the science and reason and law/justice of the day was warped to justify enslavement.

If we were humanoid beasts, it wouldn't have been necessary to make it a crime to teach us literacy because we wouldn't be capable of it.

Putting things in their historical context doesn't negate that.

We're not talking about some lack of scientific knowledge or lack of cognitive ability to understand that other humans want to be free that we had to evolve beyond to understand that it was wrong.
November 26, 2025 at 7:45 PM
Wouldn't the same people look away or even eagerly participate if those times returned?

Either you know human slavery is wrong or you're okay with it.
November 26, 2025 at 7:45 PM
To be honest, I'm always suspicious of slavery apologists. If it's so easy for you to excuse a moral injury on that scale, just because it was legal at the time (a whole other tangent) or because that wasn't the only instance of it in history....
November 26, 2025 at 7:45 PM
It's not about marking Europeans/Euro-diaspora/Euro-colonizers as uniquely evil. It's about the fact that we knew better at that point in human history, and certainly know better now.

It was and IS a deliberate choice to see other humans as less than human and act accordingly.
November 26, 2025 at 7:45 PM
People who minimize or dismiss the horrors of that experience by insisting enslavement is normal human behavior, as evidenced by the prior history of it, are missing the point, perhaps deliberately.
