Tide predictions for 2025 in southeast Florida feature two similar peaks centered around full moons on October 6 and November 5. Note that tide predictions are only astronomical/climatological in nature, and do not account for actual weather or ocean conditions which can be significant. [1/3] 🌊🧪

This is not ok. Dictatorships arrest judges. If you are not outraged you are not paying attention.

Not sure how many Ben Folds fans are out there but I’ve been a huge fan since 2003. This song “the luckiest” was my first dance song at my wedding in 2010 so it was really amazing to hear it live.

For the meteorologist here. What do we think about Tropical Storm Sara. Will it survive the Yucatan and regain strength in the gulf? It’s a tough one to model

Well South Florida, its not over until its over.
Both the European and American model ensembles are showing the distinct possibility of a tropical cyclone approaching south-west Florida around November 21.
Thank you to www.weathernerds.org which provides these amazing visuals on ensembles.

I believe it is possible to provide anyone the ability to get accurate meteorological data in an easy to understand format in advance of extreme weather events. As the climate crisis becomes a climate emergency, the goal of #earlywarningsforall is more fundamental to human wellbeing than ever.

Understanding how forecasts can so wrong needs to be a research priority. It is important to remember that overall hurricane forecasts are a great success story and their reliability saves thousands of lives every year.

What a catastrophic hurricane forecast bust

Hurricane Otis dramatically intensified and made landfall along the densely populated Mexican coast. All weather forecast models completely missed it and the hurricane may have hit the local population by surprise.

Otis has just become the first Pacific hurricane to strike land as a category 5 storm. It is the strongest landfalling Pacific hurricane on record.

Hopefully we're just about done with the crazy heat this year in Miami, and there were so many astounding records that I didn't bother making a 20-post thread to mention them all. Here are some of the highlights:

Combined, these records are just jaw-dropping -- no summer in recorded history here was anything like this. This may not be a permanent jump to a new climate regime, but time will tell...
