Fake video games, vast settings and rule sets underlying games you can’t plug a controller into and play, can be just as rich and rewarding as real games — sometimes more so. @eyepatchwolf.bsky.social, who just wrote a book about them, explains:

friday soapbox: as a designer, if you want something to be a skillful action for players, and you want growth in this skill to be very deep/meaningful, then you need to also let players be bad at it. sometimes horrendously bad. players hate this pain, and designers often want to mitigate it away.

BLIPPO+ Asks If You Want to Get Bent — Gamers with Glasses
It’s time to tune in, turn on, and.. blipp out? Patrick Fiorilli explores the channels of BLIPPO+ and its blend of the televisual and interactive. It’s hypermediated, unabashedly queer, and remediates...

Media outlets can't pivot to AI to save themselves. It's not a business strategy and it's not going to work. The only path forward is for journalists to lean into their humanity, to do things AI can't, and to make clear they are writing for people, not algorithms:

The Media's Pivot to AI Is Not Real and Not Going to Work
AI is not going to save media companies, and forcing journalists to use AI is not a business model.

Very excited and grateful to be joining @aftermath.site's stream to talk about Disability Pride Month!
On today's stream we're joined by @supercrip1994.bsky.social to discuss Disability Pride Month and accessibility in games and – because it has consumed @papapishu.bsky.social's life – the horse girl sensation that's sweeping the nation: Umamusume. We go live at 4 PM ET

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

we are riiiiiight on the cusp of hitting 4,475, so fuck it: inside baseball week continues tomorrow (and probably tuesday too)
as of right now, we're at 4,430 subscribers, which is great! almost 100 more than we started this week with. but we're still hoping to hit 4,500 before the end of tomorrow, so we've added a new goal: if we make it to 4,475, we'll extend inside baseball week into next week. that means more stories!
