Like @prisonculture.bsky.social, I've been worried about the ways popular myths of the civil rights movement make it hard to see how to struggle today. What makes me angriest about the fake AI videos where people yell at ICE is that there’s a million actual videos, there’s actual priests being pelted with pepper balls, it’s just that the real priest didn’t say “we worship the real God not your ORANGE one” so he wasn’t quippy enough

Finland is one comparatively successful model, but not just because schools teach critical thinking. Finland has high social trust, strong public-service media and coherent institutions. The whole system supports verification and open deliberation, you can’t copy the surface without the structure.

Most discussions about “misinformation” treat the problem as if people simply don’t have good enough critical-thinking skills. It sounds intuitive, but it’s not entirely accurate. The problem isn’t just individual ignorance, it’s the structure of the information environment people are placed into.

Amtrak's restored service between New Orleans and Mobile has far exceeded initial ridership projections since launch in August, just like what happened when the Borealis service was established between Chicago and St. Paul last year.

Amtrak is currently expecting to double the first-year estimates.
Gulf Coast train line is among the most successful in Amtrak’s history. See ridership totals.
The route’s early success has raised hope for some advocates of regional train travel. See how many people have taken the train since its launch in August.

Relationship goals
A friend saw several of these ornaments in a thrift store, still in their original packaging & texted me. I didn't see his message, and he didn't know if I already had one/would want it, so he hid it behind the display, so I could come find it if I wanted it. My partner retrieved & bought it today.

The goal of a course is to teach students certain skills, not give them an opportunity to live journal. The assignments are designed to teach and assess the development of those skills. That’s the deal. Instructors teach you what they plan to teach you. Not what your mommy told you to want to learn.

Guiducci is still in charge, and they allowed the firing to be framed as a mutual decision. This was not consequences.
I'm seeing some folks refer to VF axing Olivia Nuzzi as "consequences," which is a generous interpretation of the magazine trying to -- belatedly -- save its own ass.

The press *wants* this to be a sex scandal so that they can focus on the designated "wh*re", Olivia Nuzzi, as the villain.

It's not a sex scandal and Olivia Nuzzi is not the real villain. The scandal is that the culture of US journalism is corrupt to the core and this is just one example of it.
No one is sneering at Kennedy’s sexual behavior. We all just assume that’s a thing men get to do! but when women do it, they are just the most evil bitches in the world who are ruining the workplace - nay, the entire country

Tesla makes up less than 2%.
