At the 12 second mark, that camera operator called an audible and just said "fuck it, the lane is clear, no tripping hazards, I'm winning a Sports Emmy for cinematography right now"

When the Conservatives under Stephen Harper won a majority in 2011, they got 39.6% of the vote.

Right now, they have 39.9% of the vote.

But the collapse of the NDP and Bloc vote to the Liberals create a completely different electoral math.

You've got the Liberals at 159 seats where they're leading, 12 short of a majority.

You've got 6 ridings in B.C. that the Liberals won in 2021 where no votes have been counted yet.

FOLKS

IT IS GOING TO BE A LONG NIGHT (probably) TO SEE IF THERE'S A MAJORITY

Decided to see if I could find out what the "technical issue" was delaying our Eurostar, and... well, this is not exactly what I was expecting.

The anonymous ballot markings for the city council byelection are now up on Vancouver Open Data. Since vacation is a thing, I'm just going to leave this link here, patiently wait for someone else to do the full analysis, and pretend like I'm not already doing the math myself as I type this.

Turnout will be around 13-15% per cent — better than 2017, but not the type of thing that justifies a three hour wait at a polling station.

Done for the night.

Good to be back home, good to be back reporting on the things I love.

Having free and fair elections is a constant thing to fight for.

And the final results are in.

Orr and Maloney in a blowout, with Orr on more than half the ballots cast — an impressive result on a crowded ballot, even in a byelection context.

ABC gets around 13% of the vote, slightly ahead of how Vision did in the 2017 byelection when they were in power.

I can confirm this happened — imagine they did this based on internal numbers, checking back with their potential voter pool, and where all the long lines were throughout the day

ABC vibes were off tonight.
No results in yet, but I’m hearing ABC already gave their concession speeches.

Super weird night!! #vanpoli

🚨 ELECTION NOTICE 🚨

If you share any seat projection forecast for an individual riding and call it a poll, I will think you are simple at best and a disingenuous hack at worst.

Friendly reminder: a 4.8 magnitude earthquake has 1,000 times less energy than a 7.8 magnitude earthquake
