Inspectors general are tasked with rooting out fraud, abuse, and corruption.

Trump wants loyalists in these positions — a key tenant of Project 2025.

Part of what makes this a confusing political moment is that these acts aren’t partisan in a typical sense. Removing these actors is not good for Dems or bad for GOP, or pro- or anti-immigration. But it is bad and probably illegal. And politics is partisan!
