The paper explored an enigma in this system: how has a 3 million-year-old chromosomal inversion persisted for so long? Surprisingly, we found much less genetic load than expected

I'm pleased to share our new article in MBE! We dug deep into the molecular details of the classic Ruff inversion that mediates different plumage and mating display phenotypes. w/ Jason Hill and Huijan Bi and others with Leif Andersson

Was also out earlier but the pelican horde blocked most of the view (did find a new county bird Black-vented Shearwater though!)

check out the paper for more! from my time as a postdoc in Leif Andersson's lab at Uppsala. He's the Large Ground-Finch - an absolute unit

We found that just a handful of genomic loci explain ~50% of the beak size of the Medium Ground-finch. We then trace these loci over 30 years to see how admixture and natural selection interact to shape population change 3/

As part of Peter & Rosemary Grant's study on Daphne Major, we built genomic libraries for all 3,955 finches collected on this small island from the 1980s - 2010s. We then tracked the genomic outcomes of periods of episodic directional selection as environmental conditions changed 2/

It's fun to get to share our new study in Science tracking nearly 4,000 Galápagos finches using genomics over 30 years! Interested in how genomics can teach us about contemporary evolution? 1/

Hello, new app. I am an evolutionary biologist interested in how animals come to look and act like they do. Currently a postdoc working on using genomics to inform conservation decisions. Will frequently post about 🦉🐧🦜
