Probably don't max it out (that will peak and clip the audio), but raise it up until you get to unity (the usual volume you're used to, typically ~18dB on the indicator is a good place to shoot for

Right click on the little speaker icon and go to sound settings, and then there should be a little slider under the microphone's properties tab

Okay so I looked into the thread and saw you're using a USB microphone, what OS are you using? On Windows you can go into settings and adjust the gain, it might have reset to a lower value at some point

That's more likely a mic issue than a room issue then. A room issue will usually result in either sounding more hollow (if frequencies are being lost) or really peaky/boomy (if frequencies are doubling)

Could be that something is reflecting differently and making a standing wave where there wasn't before

Has anything changed about the room you record in? Even something as little as not having as much clutter around can make an impact if you don't have any acoustic treatment

That said, I don't know if this is really well known outside of the more devout Catholic circles

Like, my family still does fish on Fridays year-round and most of my Catholic fellowship in college did (and we used the above appeal to laziness to argue in favor with those who didn't)

It's only a rule in Lent but since all Fridays are days of penitence where we are called to do some small act of self-sacrifice, a lot forgo meat on all Fridays (at least for the main meal) as their act of penitence

If it's a habit it both makes you less likely to forget and makes Lent easier
