Just a guy lurking on the net, working on a little enlightenment.
Fortunate son, happy husband, proud father.
Privileged white guy who graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and knows how f***ed up that was.
Worked hard, paid my taxes, if only...

I am of the simple opinion that stuff like this is the peak of human endeavour and we can cut it out with the missiles and demonic computers in favour of getting really good at a cool little thing
this is mesmerizing

It's the gentlefolk of the Shire, and their daring to care about the world outside their own borders, who save the "hard men of Gondor," you illiterate billionaire oaf.

If I were ever to have as large an influence as Ezra Klein and get so wrong in public, I would hope I had a friend with as much moral clarity as Ta-Nehisi Coates.

The linked piece here is great. And the Klein-Coates discussion is worth reading and thinking about.
I really appreciated this thoughtful piece about Ta-Nehisi Coates & Ezra Klein. Andrea Pitzer says “lost” folks like Klein “don’t have a clear idea how this moment fits into history and what it is exactly that they’re doing”. [degenerateart.beehiiv.com]
You don’t have to swallow frogs
Klein and Coates show that if you don’t know what your core beliefs are, you’re going to get played.

I want to do a 🧵 about the Sidney Sweeney thing, because it's *extremely* revealing & educational.

First, to be clear: I could not give less of a shit about the details -- the ad, the rhetoric, the jeans, her boobs, whatever. Good lord, who cares.

Let's look at the *structure* of the episode.

Some thoughts about the military parade in my hometown of Washington DC today -- specifically, the route. Military parades in DC are quite rare. But when they happen, they have always begun, symbolically and geographically, at the Capitol and moved outward. 1/

This guy consistently posts songs with incredible lyrics mere hours after events unfurl. This was a good one.

This week makes 8 years since I joined my local police department to help change the world by changing myself. Far from being jaded, I now see much more good in people. I see a great deal of death & violence. But I see far more beauty & potential.

I choose this way. Join me

Here's how I see it. America is very far along in a process of regime change--a fundamental, revolutionary change to our entire system of government, from a liberal democracy allied to other democracies, to a patrimonial autocracy allied to other autocracies.

I think both these things can be true:

-Moves by Trump himself are 99% performative, destructive, bluffing, bigoted, bottomlessly stupid, usually fail even on their own terms.

-Meanwhile what Musk, Vought, FBI/DOJ/State et al are doing is genuinely ominous IMO.
Spending freeze not real
End of birthright citizenship struck down
Deportations only at level under Obama
Mexican and Canadian tariffs end up as called bluffs
Anybody starting to see a pattern?

Biden should release the Jack Smith report for the sake of national security. What's going to happen to him? Nothing. He's the President and the Supreme Court has given him absolute immunity for actions done within his duties.

No one listens to me about politics and the economy because what do I know

But I strongly suspect that part of how people experience “the economy” also includes their projected sense of long and longer term security- and not just how the numbers look now or last year.
