The death of Lia Smith shook many in the trans community to their cores, while online it seemed like the top priority of non-trans people was to insist there's no proof that the 21-year-old's ban from her beloved swim team caused her suicide.

Re-sharing as it was one of our top stories this year.

I hate to offer the "if you think you are safe, you are in danger" quote, but I'm getting the sense that a sizeable number schools are not financially healthy at the moment. And many are in denial about just how bad things are until it's too late.
Thinking of my New School friends whose programs have been closed (~30 of them), whose PhD programs have been indefinitely halted, and who are now receiving invitations to resign + accept severance payments — with the threat of 🪓 if not enough folks take the offer. A ✨-if-imperfect place ruined 😥

Ms. Rachel is a kind & humane teacher whose offense is speaking up against killing children in Gaza. Cynthia Nixon has Jewish kids, and has never said or done one antisemitic thing.

This is not just gross & offensive – it trivializes real antisemitism. 🧵

We have the early vote from 8 counties so far in #TN07, and the results are consistent with a big overperformance by Democrats... but as to how close the race will be, the major caveat is that the GOP tends to be stronger on Election Day votes.

Numbers are fun.

427 students at 8 charter schools is an average of 54 students per school.

$10.9 million divided by 8 charter schools is $1.362 million per school.

Or about $25.5k per student.

State schools are 9k per student.

If you are a hat maker, then you should want people who wear hats to have lots of disposable income.

But in our "stupid capitalism" society, the hat makers want to keep their customers forever in debt.
If you want people to spend more, pay them more.

Most universities lack effective protocols for handling bullies and, thus, many will take the easy way out when facing them.

This same issue is also plaguing high schools.

Rereading 11/22/63 and now at the point where they are watching a boxing match broadcast to a movie theater for the first time. It might be one of the greatest scenes Stephen King ever wrote, mainly because it has no business being that suspenseful.
