I haven't taken a selfie in awhile. Erin has posted a lot of them, so I was thinking I should do it too once in a while.

Hi, this is me

hey, any Godot understanders able to help me out?

I keep getting this popup that says "the following files are newer on disk:"

I'm only editing the files inside of Godot, so I don't understand what the issue is. But it's very disruptive when it keeps doing this.

What do?

Good morning!

I wake up and my hair is pink. Pretty neat 💖

anyway, if I leave the save window open, and then try to "save as" on the "white" file, this happens. It defaults to the name of the other file. And this time, it doesn't warn that the file already exists, it just saves over it. And so it has overwritten it, and the black square is gone

Now I selected "save as" on the black square, and the save window pops up. As shown, there is no default file name. Additionally, if I choose to save it as "black", it warns me that the file already exists (it does, but it's the file I'm trying to save)

Visual demonstration: Here we have an image of a black square and a white square respectively. Both have been saved already.

What do you mean "this file has been modified outside of godot"??

I can tell you for a fact I have not been modifying my Godot scripts outside of Godot

But if I place the character at the tower, the enormous lime is a good bit to the left (or right, if I were to put the speed scale to greater than 1).

I figured this out because you can easily override the in-game camera now.

Like if I place the node in the red building, and place the player at about 1000 pixels to the right (which is about 4000 pixels from the giant lime) then apparent location in game basically matches where it is in the editor
March 29, 2025 at 11:21 AM
Now I'm trying to figure out what it is that determines where a Godot Paralax2D node shows up in game.

Like say I want to place this enormous lime in the background, so that it shows up behind that red building when the player walks past it?

One thing I don't love understand about Linux is all the complex ways I have to give myself permission to do different things.

And pretty often there are only vague explanations as to what need to be done.

Like this.

Did some simple sketches on ideas for characters for our Fruity Train game. A cat-person and a triceratops-person.

Okay, so how do I make Linux not do this?

There is this colored square that appears in the top left, telling me what monitor it is. It's annoying and ugly, and worse it prevents me from clicking on anything there. In the spot where important menus usually are...

I tried running it in the terminal. The error I get when the program crashes seems to be this:

"ERROR: Condition "p terrain_set < 0" = true"

over and over like half a bazillion times

here is the code. I'm very confused.

Between two and eight points for me. The range is because there are things from when I was a child that I definitely had the opportunity to do but I can't remember if I did the thing or just saw others do it.

Added a virtual joystick so I can test analog controls without having to plug in a gamepad into this PC every time.

Compare to old version. Which also has variables for what kind of animations to play, because this was before I learned about state machines and stuff so I just had everything in the same script.

But also, it has a lot more if statements to account for each of the eight directions.
January 15, 2025 at 7:43 AM
I'm not saying this is the absolutely best way to do it, but it's infinitely better than the mess that was the previcous code.

The returned string is then combined with some other string to get the relevant animation.

latest adventures in learning Godot:

I added functioning healthbars. And a game over screen that shows up when player HP reaches zero

I make arts sometimes. Should I make a separate account for art posting, or just post it all here? Haven't decided yet. Here is a cute picture of recently though.
