There is an "esoteric" material world, in the joists, in the terraces and bracers, the rafters of the mind and the meta mind, the supermind and the undermind, the joints and the stomaches of the world and it's city-things.
someone already wrote about this, who was it

hmmm

But the writing is too, I don't know, patriarchal? Egoist? Like it's made to appeal to a billionaire child?
"Oh of course I'm the chosen one, the only thing that can stop the non white hordes from beyond The Frontier hmm"

This move could have spun off a series, the townies actually seemed really cool. What if they leave a beta unit to take care of grandma and watch over the last Starfighters family and the trailer park gradually becomes a space embassy, with the president frequently stopping by

"what about Grandma?"
Surely the benevolent Rylos can help? No it's just "forget about her" until she magnanimously releases her granddaughter from her earthly obligations. Didn't even offer her a Beta Unit

A lot of stuff from this movie got into Deep Space Nine - the first fish-head assassin was, just for a second, played by the guy who played Gul Ducat. When you know that a lot of DS9ness becomes clear. I saw a making of for DS9 that mentioned last starfighter

And being chosen because "he has THE GIFT" is also suspicious. Genetic determinism? It's so rare to be able to beat this game? No one else could just train up to fly these things? It had to be California's whiniest kid? Is this why FASFA was created in 1992, was it this hard to get a student loan?

the least relatable protagonist isn't excited about being pressed into the service of a militia shouting victory or death, they don't even bother to describe it as a worthy cause they just declare it, like they didn't try to convince him at all, just called it his big shot

like even the actor felt uncomfortable, you can tell. I need a Where Are They Now And Are They OK on him

the whole thing about the little kid being into playboy seemed wrong. There was no chemistry between him and that magazine, the scene was crap, unnecessary, creepy, and creeeepy

if this was only the first time then maybe I would give them the benefit of the doubt

I think the "stole an election" charge seems dubious just given the source of the claim, a tyrannical worldwide conspiracy of the government controlling capitalist class which has whipped up this claim repeatedly for the purpose of excusing aggressive war of economic conquest
