It's more than that — the $30 pet fee, the $50 valet trash fee, the $10 convenience fee to pay rent. These are often ways landlords seek to maximize profit (often illegally) on the backs of tenants.

It's wrong, and we need to call it out every time.

How to use this benefit: The verification process to get paid sick and safe time approved can vary by employer. However, you have a right to privacy and should exercise that right when requesting this type of paid leave. The verification process for the expanded law states you must provide documentation from advocates or attorneys or a personal written statement that you are preparing for, or participating in immigration proceedings for yourself or a loved one. You do not have to disclose any personally identifiable information about one’s immigration status. Important definitions: In Washington state, the definition of loved one is broad. You can use paid sick and safe time to support yourself or your -child, -grandchild, -grandparent, -parent, -sibling, -chosen family, -spouse, or -roommate. In short, a loved one is anyone who depends on you for care.
