Overall I think it's an improvement but the cool spirits pushing through are a bit lost now.
No idea how I'd tackle it but maybe trying to have them look like they're pushing through the fabric like horror movies? Maybe darken them and leave the glow behind/around them?

Black flames! Not that difficult. I'm useless at freehand but mine turned out well imo. I just dragged squigly lines down and then filled in the gaps. Contrast Black Legion helped.
