i'm no expert but if sounds like you need a durable websocket connection to the aggregation point? sounds like durable objects might work? @threepointone.bsky.social

it really does seem to be that way, but I don't want to label everyone on there as fitting into that demographic by default. it seems like a lot of folks stayed because the algorithm was better for surfacing tech news (I still think it is but maybe thats a skill issue on my part).

seems like he's become more empowered, since a lot of folks on X love him. most of the opposition are over here instead

bummer. is it socially acceptable to be like this in europe or what? usually folks would be dragged for saying this but everybody is hanging out over here now.

i fell for this and got a mac mini thinking it would be great for local llms, but I think building a PC, or going with a framework or beelink desktop, is a better return on investment. A lot of folks seem to be building their own monster desktops, and it's pretty exciting to see.

i'm not a ruby person but is the ruby/rails leadership down with this? it's so strange that someone would be so openly hostile to people of color

Honestly I don't want to come out and label DHH as anything, but his views are xenophobic and he seems very adamant about propagating them. Does he realize that he's alienating people from the tech community? Is he doing this on purpose? And if so, why?

but then recently he started posting about how folks on bsky were harassing him and I had to check back in over here. Then I saw what was really going on

bsky.app/profile/engi...
this is disappointing. I have admired DHH's work on Rails and his general engineering philosophies, but his essay "As I Remember London" is concerning.
The Ruby community has a DHH problem

It's funny, because for a long time i was seeing the recent "resurgence" of DHH's popularity in the tech community. To be honest, I totally forgot why folks were so opposed to him. I just thought he was eccentric and had a lot of good ideas about getting back to simpler engineering practices.

this has been me for the last few weeks working on my web DAW for microtonal music. I feel like i'm at a strong point in the design, but I'm so tired of issuing orders that i just want to quietly prune the internal API to get it how i like it. then we can resume light-speed dev

you can spend a week going on a bender of building out more and more grandiose abstractions, but eventually you get exhausted. Its like you end up speed running from v0 to v3 before the app ever ships.
