The two big questions surrounding this latest nuclear power announcement are;

1) What about nuclear waste? This often gets (almost literally) swept under the carpet - and despite all the decades of research, a satisfactory answer has still not yet been reached...and...

Nuclear power will always be divisive; we all know what can happen when things go wrong, however in reality, statistically, fossil fuel-based operations are far more risky and of course have carbon emissions attached...

It starts with basics; dialling down the thermostat by 1 degree, switching lights off, turning stuff off - all things that cost zero but can save masses. It's amazing how many places we see where such #energyefficiency basics are not followed.

It's hardly news, but maybe it is to some, that reducing carbon emissions, saving energy, also reduces costs; funds that can then be used for business purposes, rather than chucking them out of the (open whilst the heating's on) window...

Check your bank's involvement - if they're going to be involved in this #carbonbomb then just switch to another bank who isn't intent on destroying the planet. Same with your pension or any investments, just check, what are they actually investing in?

Clean Power 2030 is hardly ground breaking, it's achievable, particularly if subsidies are switched to make electricity more affordable, it can hardly be diluted down much more without becoming irrelevant.

The UK is (or at least...should be) a market leader and other nations do look at us, the good and the bad - by scaling down our ambitions of weaning off gas the message is loud and clear; "its not our problem really, you lot need to sort it out (even though we started all this mess)"...

Amongst other things, saying that the UK's decarbonisation efforts are not important globally is completing missing the point - if we demonstrate an antipathy to decarbonisation then what will other nations think? Why should others bother if we don't care?...

At the end of the day by using a little less, you save a bit more. It all adds up.

We all have a part to play; yes the world leaders shoulder (or should shoulder, and rightly so) the burden and decarbonisation of the grid isn't something that everyday people will feel they're impacting on (though if you have solar panels on your roof...just for instance)...

Net-zero isn't straightforward and in essence we should just be trying to reduce carbon emissions by as much as possible, 'beyond net-zero' sounds even more confusing, so why not just 'Carbon Zero'?

As ever with politicians (and don't think I'm purely anti-Tory here, Labour are just as bad) there's a lot of fluff and jargon with wonderful-sounding promises, but very little to actually back it up...

They argue that they want to prioritise cheap energy. Ok sure sounds great...go on then...how?...

Conservatives would do away with not only the UK’s 2050 net-zero target but all interim carbon budgets recommended by climate scientists.
