With restrictions removed, survivors of sexual and domestic violence will continue to receive support without meeting obstacles. This win shows that pressuring the administration to drop conditions on receiving supportive services works.

A domestic violence service provider in LA tells me a victim has gone missing and is “likely back with her abuser” because she was afraid to go to court to get a restraining order Monday with ICE staking out courthouses.

“Victims in this area already have to travel 3 hours in the immediate aftermath of a sexual assault just to receive the medical forensic care they deserve. Closing will not only further the distance survivors face accessing lifesaving services, but will likely end the road to recovery altogether.”

"It will lead to increased homicide rates. If emergency shelters and legal services are slashed, in addition to a decrease in staffing available for advocacy, risks are elevated." 8/10

"Victims will again be on their own to search for resources and in most instances will not find them. The services will either be non-existent or waiting lists will be so long to even apply for resources that victims will just walk away to deal with their trauma on their own." 7/10

"Over 30 years, we’ve seen the breadth & depth of services expand so that we offer more than just emergency shelter, crisis counseling, advocacy. With these cuts we’re going to go back to addressing only the crisis, & not the support needed to heal & obtain safety & self-sufficiency in the long term

"For smaller, rural programs, many will be faced with closing our doors." 5/10

"Immigrant and refugee survivors of violence who face steep barriers to safe housing (e.g., no credit history, no rental history, waiting for work authorization and/or no income source yet, etc.) would have no choice except between returning to violence or choosing violence on the streets." 4/10

"The courage that it takes to actually ask for help is sometimes all a survivor can muster.

If there is no one to answer their calls, it only confirms that they are alone to deal with their trauma." 3/10

"If survivors must wait longer to receive services, then they have to wait longer to get to safety.

They are already in emergency situations and having nowhere safe to go means they remain victim[s] and cannot become survivors." 2/10
