This one I'm very happy with, so much so that I got a canvas printed of it! This is the Fighting Dragons of Ara, which is definitely the coolest name for a nebula ever.

In the Small Magellanic Cloud are two vibrant star-forming regions, NGC 346 and NGC 371. NGC 346 is a brilliant stellar nursery, containing thousands of young stars. Nearby NGC 371 is distinguished by its high concentration of variable stars.

94,000 light-years in diameter, making it slightly smaller than our Milky Way Galaxy, the Sculptor Pinwheel Galaxy is a spiral galaxy in the direction of the Sculptor group of galaxies.

The Lobster Nebula (the Madokami Nebula if you're an anime fan) is a diffuse nebula in the constellation Scorpius. Shielded by dark discs of gas, the nebula contains many proto stars including young stars centered within expanding gas clouds

Wonky is back up and running! It finished its test run last night with flying colours and fingers crossed we'll get back to posting awesome space photos soon!

The Cosmic Bat Nebula. This dense molecular cloud blocks light from both background stars and the nearby reflection nebula. Young stars, recently formed within its dense gaseous knots, illuminate the nebula, giving it an eerie glow

It's been a journey. From the days in lockdown with an ED80 and a mate's camera, to a fully automated remote observatory. Wonky has its quirks and has needed a lot of fixes, but you just can't beat getting all that data when you want it

The Great Carina Nebula, The Carina Nebula, or just NGC 3372, is a massive area of nebulosity in the constellation of Carina. Spanning a whopping 230 light years it's a complex structure containing multiple nebulae and star clusters.

The Orion Nebula, this one took a lot of effort. It's 30 second exposures and 2 hours a panel, at 4 separate panels stitched together, for a total of 10648x6744 pixels. And it was super bright!

Might have taken me around 20 hours to edit.

Got something big in the works. Around 11,000x7,000 pixels big that is!

Haley's Coronet is a barred spiral galaxy located 50 million light-years from us. Viewed side-on, we can see it interacting with a smaller dwarf galaxy, NGC1531, as the outer arm of the galaxy is seemingly pulling towards its smaller companion.

Wonky received a much needed upgrade over the break. The hatch hinges were replaced and an actuator was added to the hatch. Allowing Wonky to see targets low on the horizon. Fingers crossed we've got some good stuff in store for 2025!

The Great Barred Spiral Galaxy, or NGC 1365, is a large barred spiral galaxy located within the Fornax cluster. It's estimated to be around 3 times the size of our own Milky Way galaxy, with the outer arms taking 350 million years to finish a single rotation. #space #astronomy #astrophotography

The Pencil Nebula is a small part of the Vela Supernova Remnant, which originated from a star exploding around 11,000 years ago. This explosion caused this particular fragment to fly away from the source at approximately 644,000 kilometers per hour.

NGC 6334, also known as the "Cat's Paw" Nebula, is a large cloud of gas spanning 320 light years. This nebula is abundant in ionized hydrogen, which gives off a red hue, while oxygen atoms reflect blue light.

Thor's Helmet, an emission nebula measuring about 30 light-years across, houses a central star that is approaching a pre-supernova phase. It comprises several hundred solar masses of ionised material, and several thousand more of unionised gas

-40 hours total in exposure
-GSO RC12 with .67 reducer

I know #Homeworld 3 has copped some flak, but I'm actually quite enjoying it. Once you turn NLIP off and slow it down a little it plays great, and it looks amazing!

I will agree, however, that the story doesn't have the light touch that the others had. No spoilers though 😅

The Tarantula Nebula is one of the largest ionised hydrogen regions in our Local Group, and it's so bright that if it were as close as the Orion Nebula is it would cast shadows at night! Named for the cloud structures that resemble a tarantula's lair.

Another #blender fly through, this time of the Pavo Galaxy. It's 30 million light-years away and bears a striking resemblance to our very own Milky Way Galaxy with its wispy arms, elongated nucleus, and at least one distorted companion galaxy

How cool are globular clusters?

Omega Centauri contains a whopping 10,000,000 stars. The core of this cluster is so incredibly dense that the stars are on average only 0.1 light years apart from each other

There are certainly opinions about Homeworld 3, which I'll get to when I've finished it, but I do really like the collector's edition models
