No. No thanks. I like to fucking read. I like to read the whole document. I like to think about the document, I like to absorb the document, I like to talk about the document, I'd like to read it. I don't want to be more efficient. I don't need to be more efficient. Life is fast enough, let me live.

And for storage, might I suggest a Throne-side position, for easy access? Combine Dad's two favorite activities: high-quality satire, and low-quality bowel movements

Rob Reiner deserves an Oscar. Do they make an Oscar category for "longest string of absolute bangers, each in a wholly unique genre"?

Stories beginning with quotes should have stopped after the seminal 2006 film Talladega Nights. All others pale in comparison

Wow this is actually quite cool. Good news for my self-published friends, who don't want to be reliant on Bezos for sales!

Reminds me of Writing Excuses' @maryrobinettekowal.com recommending the 1855 Domestic Economy by Mrs Parkes, for writing books set in that time period.

The little details add to the realism, and realism sometimes really matters in fantasy

Take some magic from our world, then add your own!

I'm gonna get so much use out of this book. Imagine if I had a character who was a glass maker in a fantasy world. Well, by getting some small but real details right about the glass, the reader might be more willing to buy the fantasy stuff too.

Is your book about a thieving rug seller? A porcelain expert (who's also a genie)? A tiny fae who runs your dad's grandfather clock? The Antiques Roadshow Primer has a section for you!
January 9, 2025 at 1:56 AM
I was at a book sale for my local library ($5/bag, stuff as many books as you can!) and I found...the holy grail for writing research???

The Antiques Roadshow Primer is STUFFED with period specific ideas, on everything from culture to furniture to pottery. Hiiiiighly recommend for you writers!

Tried a new "spicy butter" and "herb whipped goat cheese" recipe with my breakfast

-butter melted in crushed red flakes and paprika 🌶️

-goat cheese whipped with basil and dill 🐐

It's....it's a game changer. Feels like free DLC

Garbage bags keep slipping into your trash can?

Take two Command hooks. Attach them about halfway down the outside of your trash can (hooks should be upside down, one on either side of the can).

Fit your bag over the can, and then hook the trash bag "handles" around the Command hooks. Tada!

So my SD card from my recent Australia/New Zealand trip has snapped in half. 2000 pics gone, I only saved 51 before I broke it. Tryna feel very Buddhist about it (failing)

Happy that this is one that lived!

Sylvia got this for me when we were in lockdown in Australia, 2020. We used to sit on our tiny balcony and listen to it. It always makes us smile when we throw it on now

Sometimes I think about death and how it'll really blow when the reality in my brain collapses in on itself like a dying sun

Other times I step out and see the changed leaves and think that this moment is wonderful because of its impermanence not in spite of it

Mostly I think ah fuck. gotta rake
