Thirty-something trans bitch in Boston. I was called a ‘gender tourist’ once as an insult but joke’s on you, I’m into that shit

Here to be a problem
MMORPGs are my favourite kind of game because they appeal to my deepest, filthiest, and most primal fantasy*

*getting to be an incurable busybody, and being lavishly rewarded and praised for it. Also I can be a pretty, athletic girl with a huge rack

"Joy is bad, please be more cynical"
Hollywood: “hey you liked this thing from 20 years ago, how would you like to see that same thing again?”
Me: “you mean like a sequel?”
Hollywood: “no, like the same thing.”
Me: “oh. Like a reboot I guess?”
Hollywood: “no. The exact same thing. [sobbing] Please give us your money.”

Re-reading Lord of the Rings at the moment, and I'd forgotten how relentlessly Gandalf drags Hobbits.

"Of course, The Enemy has overlooked one thing: dipshits such as yourself, Frodo. Buffoons with fat feet and shithole burrows. Yes, perhaps your painful loser energy may surprise Sauron yet!"

I love that the post is trying to dunk on this despite it being a thing many if not most people would genuinely enjoy and it being good for movie theatres.
Joyless people are a fascinating subculture.

the birthright clause was not just written to wipe dred scott off of the books, it was written to repudiate the *idea* behind dred scott, you might say the larger *ideological project* of dred scott. and the whole of section 1 of the 14th amendment is a constitutional statement of political equality

Birthright citizenship is probably not integral to liberal democracy, but it is integral to *American* liberal democracy. Our vision of what we are as a country, as a nation beyond an ethnicity, requires it.

You know which group doesn't go around spouting that bullshit about earning their vote? Conservatives.

They know their votes shape the agenda, and that's exactly how they vote. In doing that, 25% of the population basically has a chokehold on our government.

I’ve been advocating that anti-vaxxers should be treated as terrorists committing deliberate biological warfare and be treated the exact same as the worst excesses of Bush-era War on Terror paranoia since I was old enough to even know about the movement.
I've always thought that the better response to anti-vax sentiment from communities without a well-rooted fear of the medical-scientific community is "shut the fuck up, get your shot or you will be punished" rather than attempting to get people to understand.
We're going to have to jam civilization and science down some people's throats.

like, the number one rule of doing comedy is you do actually have to do comedy. You aren't a brave truth teller, and if it isn't funny then you're just an asshole, instead of a funny asshole.

like whats the joke here?

I'll be very clear here:

No, it does *not* suck to tell people that they should be fully aware of who they're partnering with in a given protest/movement.

Yes, it does suck to say "ignore the issues with this group, their presence is necessary" when it comes to these horrible yet tiny orgs.

A lot of comments under this are saying things like "It's not OUR jobs to stop this, it's the job of Congress to stop it!" and like...NO. It IS our jobs as citizens to stop this; Congress is not some customer support line for us to lodge complaints with. We must be active in our civic virtue. TLDR:

Hot take to make everyone mad: having as many people as possible at anti-war and anti-Trump protests is good, even if they’re from groups that suck. BUT we should still have a low tolerance for weirdo cults, Russian and PRC-funded ops, and other bullshit, and it’s good to be aware of them.

White critics and audiences seem deeply uncomfortable with marginalized creators making *art*, in my experience. They demand that such creators make Statements, which is not in fact the same thing.
There’s significant overlap, but confusing the two is a cruel mistake.
black creators of various stripes are often forced into categories so as to make them legible and (i’d say) shrink the ambitions of their work.

Cruelty is anhedonic. It rarely delivers the euphoria promised because, in the abstract, what feels righteous and joyful inevitably reveals itself to be sordid and small. Then it's "No not like that". "No not enough". "No the real battle, the forever war to make this feel good starts now". Forever.
Note how these awful people are getting exactly the exclusions of children that they demanded and *that still isn’t enough for them*: they demand everyone be delighted about it and kiss their arses for being brilliant.
