Span, Fr, Eng pre-, hi- & postmodern. Whatever it is, Cervantes saw it coming. Director, Oregon Humanities Center. Deep interest in poetry; deepening interests in vis. art, perf. art. Current pivot: Velázquez, 80s feminisms and the NY art scene.
Hood River, OR shows up. Proud, loud, and joyous.

Last great prose read of the season. Great, dizzying satisfying finish (w/cameo appearance by Las Meninas!) to a summer of lusciously sinking into novels: Another Country, To The Lighthouse, Orbital, plus 3-4 of my old Sara Paretskys sprinkled in for good measure.

I think Another Country popped up on a Guardian list of summer reads?Grateful. Opened it to wait out a muggy downpour in the East 40s, read it through the night on the plane home. Sublime evocation of NY, of the mid-20th c., of race, jazz, sex, friendship, love; of that threshold: youth to adulthood

Delicious immersion over the long weekend over here in the US. Didn't open my laptop at all yesterday.

Finally got to Lucy Alford on my stack of "must reads" (I know...I know...shoulda gotten there sooner), and it's another of those Books I Have Been Waiting For...right up there with my first read of Poetry and the Fate of the Senses, or The Sighted Singer, or Post-Petrarchism. That kind of great.

Pretty beautiful day to be out in the sunshine in Portland, Oregon! People were saying 30,000 strong. We think it might be more!

You might want to read the recent update on neh.gov. And go rule of law, go! (And yes, we want it *all* back. Gender and climate change are real.)

Sharing my neighbor's divine daphne odorosa for your Tuesday. I wish I could post it in Odorama, but that was then this is now.

Appreciation, gratitude, and solidarity to NEH staff in these devastating times. I am furious at what you are being put through. Completely unacceptable state of affairs.

I have these lines rolling around in my head somewhere most of the time. But as we stare into the maw of whateverthehell it's going to be, starting today, I'm especially glad that Williams wrote them and I get to carry them.

Ahhh...who doesn't enjoy a nice bout of the cruddy flu this time of year? But I did get up and about to toss the ball a few times in this gorgeous, post-snowfall sunrise before staggering back to the sofa.

Spent a good chunk of the solstice looking at tundra swans, sand cranes, and many, many ducks: pintails, shovelers, ring-necks, teals, mergansers...plus mallards (poor old mallards). Oh, and an egret. This snap totally fails. But we could use more wet, low-angle light, winter landscapes in here.

I think I'm at...7? And sorta slowing down (if a single *poem* could count, then...but I get it. This is a book thing). Anyway, this is the copy my mom gave me in 1983.

Funny to note that I'm not going to make it to 20, I don't think. I just read and reread and re- re-read the same 10 or 12...they cycle in and out of usefulness and fall differently each time.
