Heading home from ESA after a meeting about concepts for Sentinel 6 next generation. That’s the reference sea level mission and sea level rise is one of the most direct consequences of global warming. Perhaps unsurprisingly, almost all the committee travelled to ESA by long distance train.

Reposting this as I think no one saw the original. If you know anyone with an altimetry and/or SAR background who might be looking for a job, let them know of this!

The commissioning phase of the Copernicus Sentinel-2C satellite is now officially over 🛰️!

S2C has met its requirements and it’s now ready to start operations, supporting a huge range of applications such as agriculture, emergency management or methane emissions monitoring.

A great end to the year!

Today is my son’s 18th birthday. Ignoring the fact I don’t feel old enough to have an adult son, I’m very proud of the young man he now is. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 8 years ago, and has handled that so well. He plans to study maths at university next year and has many friends.

Last week I talked to a group of retired engineers who had worked on designing, building and maintaining Concorde. Tonight I spoke at my local Quaker meeting. Both talks about climate change, stubborn optimism and tipping points. Both went well and led to 45 minutes of really interesting questions.

I kept seeing that people had gone over here and this seems more practical than Mastodon. So here I am.
