I was absolutely heartbroken to hear this, the staff at IAD are wonderful and do so much amazing work.

This! The emphasis on respect is so important. So often AI is hyped up to “solve problems quickly” but these “solutions” always lack respect for the people that will be impacted by AI outputs.

In my experience, some of the binary seems to come from people in group 2 tending to assume people in group 3 are actually group 1.
