This is, as is Ian Dunt's wont, a terrific piece of writing.
Realistic, terrifying, hopeful and a call to arms. I commend it to conference.
The far-right is in its pomp. We will have to fight for our values like never before.

Perfect Lehrer
With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.

‘Instead of truly fixing the core problem, one day, we were told by corporations and politicians that the pandemic was over. We decided to agree.Pretending that the problem was solved felt easy, and unprocessed grief about the loss of the pre-COVID era continues to reinforce this frame of thought.’🎯

Just home after singing in a packed concert to read this lovely thread about the power of music. Very life affirming. 🥰
Something amazing happened to me yesterday. I went to a free concert at a local church - The Gustav Holst Ensemble - & half way through the second piece - Brahms Piano Quartet no. 3 - I noticed that tears were streaming down my face. A moment of absolute beauty. Never known anything like it.

[not a meme]

When you think of Wales, you probably think of a few things. Rugby. Lamb. Singing. They are a fundamentally musical people.

Music is in their hearts.

Music is in their DNA.

But it's also in their teaching.

Until now, apparently.

if you made art this year, you did well. a sketch, even if it was scrapped ; a poem, even if it was deleted — mattered. you put thought to paper, you engaged with the creative alchemy of turning feeling to something tangible. doesn't matter if you weren't productive "enough." or good "enough."
