I'm Emma and I'm a PhD Student at Kingston exploring Stop-Motion Animation, Film Sound and the Uncanny.

Outside of academia, I drink a lot of coffee, I enjoy reading, I'm a gamer, and I'm part of several fandoms.

Happy to be here!
It's #alevelresultsday today, which means reflecting on mine from 9 years ago. I was predicted BBC and ended up with DDE. I got into Derby through #clearing, graduated in 2019 with a 2:1. In 2022 I got into Kingston to do a #Masters and graduated with a Distinction!! And now I'm doing my #PhD.

Meant to share this last night, but after 12+ hours of work over two days, I finally have a reference Masterlist for my #PhD.
Everything I've watched, listened to, and read academically, fully Harvard referenced too.
Just need to crack on and finish up my upgrade supporting document.

Another sunny day, another day in London doing PhD related things.

The Freud Museum and Swedenborg House to explore their Quay Brothers Exhibition.

Off to see Flow at the local cinema tomorrow, so may have a movie day for my PhD too.

Another trip to London to watch The Quay Brothers films in the Kinoteka Film Festival. Sadly I only managed to get tickets for the first part as I didn't realise there was a second until it was all sold out.

Even with a migraine, I'm excited to see more Quay Brothers films, and for the Q&A after.

Final Thoughts: 3.5/5 ⭐ It's non-linear and labrynthine so lost me a bit, but the sound design was beautiful, the puppets believable as autonomous beings and sets creepy and eerie.
Been trying to get out to more events that feature stop motion films. I haven't yet made it to the Quay Brothers in my stop motion viewing, so their newest feature is one of my first viewings - Alice in Not So Wonderland (2007) was my first Quay Brothers film.

Without even realising it I've watched 135 films for my PhD so far. If I watch everything on my spreadsheet (which I have a lot to update) once, I'll surpass 200 films.

Currently I'm on an Alice in Wonderland, stop motion and uncanny mood, hence a lot of Alice showing up.

THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS was released 34 years ago this week. One of the most commercially and critically successful crime thrillers ever made, the making of story is like having an old friend for dinner…

WOW! That is an amazing number of people who have us as their number 1 podcast this year. Genuinely mind blowing.

Thank you all!

Epic: the Musical took over my life this year. But my top 100 is slightly more eclectic but shows my other music genre: Hollywood. Give me film scores and soundtracks.
Which segues nicely into my top podcast for the third or fourth (?) year running @tsftmpod.bsky.social

Double lanyard for the PAST skills at The National Archives today.

Whilst not the best archives for my PhD, I am learning skills that I can use in other archives that are more relevant.

If you're going into a film screening late (either because you haven't got a ticket for the screening, or for any other reason) don't then take a call and talk. Ruined the last 20 minutes of The Polar Express. Yes, I did snap my head and glare at them the first 20 times.

It was so cool! Waiting to head home but points failure has delayed all the trains, so I just got on the first one boarding.
Which will leave first, who knows? I just want to get home to medicate this migraine again.

Braved the migraine to make it to the Puppet Theatre Barge for #LIAF.
I've never been here before but it's so cool, if a bit creepy.
I should have bought my notebook with me but migraine brain made me forget it. 😅

Someone outside of my workplace (in a town centre) is playing themes from the Star Wars soundtracks. Thought I was going mad hearing 'Main Theme' and 'Cantina Band.' Tempted to find out who it is to ask them for 'Duel of the Fates', but I don't get off work for another 30 minutes.
