Hallam's program replaces elections with sortition, restores genuine democracy, empowers normal people, undermines fascist tendencies, & removes the corrosive impact of $$$ from politics. It's a longshot & the best alternative we have.

Hallam's alternative is a democratic revolution. Step one: forget about elections. The ancient Athenians knew that elections favored the rich and powerful. Their democracy was based on representatives selected by lottery, known as sortition. /6

Uncomfortable truths: We owe everything we know & are to a planetary ecosystem. Pumping the atmosphere full of carbon is destabilizing that system. Things are changing, like it or not. Fascists are good at exploiting societal breakdown. The status quo is over. It's fascism or something new... /5

Revolution is a scary word for many Americans, but as Hallam points out, it simply means changing the government to better suit the moment. Representative democracy was built for an earlier time, when we didn't face global extinction. We need to replace it. /4

Violent revolution is one fantasy, but violence is an inherently fascist tendency. Even if it succeeds (unlikely) it naturally leads to another repressive regime. A bloodless revolution is the goal. How? /2
