For datacenters, we see a strong short-term growth in contracted capacity passing 4 GW by 2026 📈⚡
The consumption growth follows with a few years delay to 24-29 TWh by 2030 📊⚡

Tomorrow is the 9th consecutive afternoon with negative or very low Day Ahead electricity prices (≤ €5/MWh) in the Netherlands.

Is this new normal for spring and summer? 🤔

Solar battery deal for giant smelter is a stunning game-changer for Australian energy
Choice of wind, solar and battery storage to power giant smelters means the biggest consumers of energy are moving beyond fossil fuels and “baseload”. Here’s why.

The world installed 599 gigawatts of solar panels last year, according to #BloombergNEF, up by about a third from '23

It’s hard to comprehend numbers on that scale

Generating power only 15% of the time, those panels should produce about 787 terawatt-hours of electricity

As I have always said, if green steel is ever to achieve globally meaningful scale, it will happen in a country with unlimited high-grade ore, unlimited cheap renewables, and unlimited cheap money. That sounds a lot more like Australia than Sweden. #Hydrogen

A common criticism of energy system models is their reliance on single weather years, despite significant year-to-year variations.

But how can we ensure robust infrastructure planning in this case? What happens during rare events like the once-a-decade Dunkelflaute?

After a 3 day Dunkelflaute in North West Europe with nearly no wind and solar but not even very cold, lets talk about adequacy and scarcity prices. ⚡📈🇪🇺
At Dec 12th prices peaked at 17-18h with highest prices in Germany at €936/MWh 💸🇩🇪, even with:
35 GW fossil 🏭
13 GW imports 🔌
7 GW hydro 💧
