If you do a close read not only of the Bible but the archeology,
it starts to look like the Israelites, & all but a couple of Judean kings, worshipped a goddess for pretty much the whole First Temple era.
The implications of this are... far ranging--
& her name might not be what we've believed.

I'm leyning for the, what, 4th time this shabbos. This is the first time I'm not totally psyched about it, I think mostly because it's really hard! We're at the "DIY furniture instructions" part of the Torah, and it seems like the text is the same 8 words repeated in various combinations.

I've successfully gotten people to delete their posts by simply replying "messed up take imo" or "weird post imo". It's remarkable and funny how people would rather disagree with or yell at people than be thought aberrant by them.

I do not understand the thinking behind symbolic protest at this point in history. "I am going to take personal risk to publicly ask someone else to do something."
Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

Listening to an audiobook doesn't *need to be* reading. It's a perfectly valid way of consuming books. It's not less than. And we don't need to torture the English language to recognize that.

Most of the time, doing a thing on social media isn't "doing something" about anything. Go call a friend or learn something (or practice dry-firing your gun). Take a walk, meet your neighbor.

I just scrolled past a headline that said something like, "can religion be the answer to society's celebrity obsession" and. "Religion" is mostly a Christian hegemonic label that doesn't make sense in an decolonial context. And Jews love celebrities! Vilna Gaon? Hillel? Chasam Sofer? Rashi?
