Ditto lists and starter packes: you should be able to remove yourself from those. Yes, there are useful lists and starter packs, but some of them are clearly hostile and in bad faith. It's a failure of safeguarding that you can't remove yourself.

I have also found that basically none of my posts on X get any views anymore; it must be the fact that I mostly write about science, critical tech, and high education – things that MAGA doesn't believe in.
I ran an experiment, simultaneously posting articles on Bluesky and X, and then testing to see how many people actually clicked and read them. The numbers on Bluesky are higher, both because the X algorithm downranks journalism, and because Bluesky attracts readers, not just shitposters.

Adorno: In Defense of Truth
aworkinglibrary.com/writing/in-d...

The conversion of all questions of truth into questions of power [...] has attacked the very heart of the distinction between true and false, which the hirelings of logic were in any case diligently working to abolish.
In defense of truth
Things have come to pass where lying sounds like truth, truth like lying. Each statement, each piece of news, each thought has been pre-formed by the centres of the culture industry.…The extreme...

Tariff-Strained Apple Announces 7,083-Piece iPhone Kit
CUPERTINO, CA—Amidst the strain of tariffs, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced Thursday the launch of a new 7,083-piece iPhone kit. “Apple customers will have a blast soldering, polishing, and drilling as they build their very own iPhone,” Cook said in a Keynote presentation at Apple headquarters, touting the new product as an innovative, first-of-its-kind achievement […]

Another computer scientist here; definitely agree with historical context from Judah. Another point: where have all the great end-user-programming and data management tools like hypercard and filemaker gone? why are we forcing non-devs to write _typescript_ ffs?

Even I shouldn't.

AI is a growing issue for moderators on Reddit and Travis has been on it (I co-authored). This qualitative work provides some context on what problems and challenges mods (at CMV and other subreddits) see and how they resist.
I also want to point to my recent paper (forthcoming at CSCW25) about moderating AI-generated content on Reddit. I spoke to CMV mods about their experiences with, and stances towards AI, in their communities. It's not a surprise that this use of AI is unwelcome!
