How do you make the argument that feeding hungry kids is "a waste?"

And yet, that's exactly the argument that Senate Republicans made tonight.

The U.S. won’t achieve true greatness until it admits it never had it.

Slavery, genocide, segregation, internment camps, this isn’t a golden age, it’s a wound we’ve never treated.

If greatness is the goal, justice must be the path.

ALSO, lying about vaccines, which are safe and preventative (saving people and costs). Hurting rural hospitals, already struggling. Gutting funding for medical research and clinical trials. Pimping quack cures instead of evidence-based medicine…
The seven ways Republicans are cutting our healthcare.

1. Higher costs per visit;
2. Paperwork and denial of coverage;
3. Kill the ACA;
4. Shift costs to states who can’t afford it;
5. Getting rid of retroactive coverage;
6. Cutting Planned Parenthood; &
7. Reducing the minimum number of nurses.

The original Fort Bragg was named for Gen. Braxton Bragg, a Confederate general.

Pete Hegseth has renamed the the base to honor U.S. Army paratrooper Roland L. Bragg to keep the name.

Was he too drunk to know the difference or is he using a technicality to hide his racism?
A drunk renaming a US military base after a foreign power who fought to kill the US military seems as bit traitorous, no?

The Republican Congress has surrendered. They are no longer a functioning co-equal branch of government. Democrats need to do everything to not cooperate. Use your position to slow their fascist takeover. The time of “bipartisanship” and “finding common ground” is over. Now it’s time to fight.

Brittany Wise was jailed for an unpaid traffic ticket. On her release 3 days later, the state refused to return her kids.
In Georgia, a mom facing eviction reached out to DFCS for help. They offered her nothing. Soon the agency took her kids away because of "inadequate housing."

The state then paid *$6,200 a month* to house her kids in foster care.

One of the most important and infuriating stories I read this year:
When Families Need Housing, Georgia Will Pay for Foster Care Rather Than Provide Assistance
In more than 700 cases over five years, Georgia reported inadequate housing as the sole reason for taking a child into foster care, a WABE and ProPublica analysis found. Advocates say it would be chea...

Such 💩
Some will declare fealty publicly. Some privately.

Make no mistake, they will all protect their own interests before defending the country that made them rich.

I'm speechless 🥺
A Syrian woman recently freed from Assad’s prison by the rebels shared her story with activists:

“I was arrested at 19. I’m now 32. I have children, but I don’t even know who their fathers are.”
The rebels have liberated hundreds of women, toddlers and babies held in Sednaya prison.

They've also released hundred of prisoners some of which were tortured to the point of forgetting their own identity, others held for decades for speaking out against the regime. #freeSyria

Universal health care is a cornerstone of every other developed country, but in the US, coverage is fragmented among those with private insurance, government programs and a sizable uninsured population.

In the US large swaths of the population are being sentenced to death by lack of coverage. 🧵

A formative moment for me in reporting on Musk/Tesla was in 2019 when Tesla stopped OSHA from entering its Nevada factory and then blocked them again when they returned with a warrant and a sheriff’s deputy and then… nothing

It's so bad 🥺😢
The people who scream the loudest about “protecting our children” seem awfully quiet about the new head of HHS regularly hanging out with a twice convicted pedophile.
