So I wrote a book about Twitter. Medieval Twitter to be exact---the interconnections between Twitter's textual modes & medieval literary culture(s), plus medievalists' use of Twitter and the #MedievalTwitter hashtag

Important conversation. I’m the “learning and teaching dev officer” on campus and the collective resentment over having to learn abt AI is deep and troubling, and contributing to lower morale. This on top of profs already attempting to address UDL, folks are feeling spread thin
I feel confident that "refusal" is a dead end, and that students will benefit more from the kind of guidance Anna is providing here.

But I also understand why teachers would lose heart, because this guidance seems unlikely to be stable for long, and leaves instructors exposed to continued change. +
My own thinking on this is far from complete. Still, my intuition tells me that refusing to guide students on ways AI can complement their learning and thinking is ultimately a dead end. I've tried to candidly articulate my reasons in a draft directed at students: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Honestly… it doesn’t sound awful, but I’m trying to figure out the pancake part. Would they not get horribly soggy? Maybe that was ok? (Sounds gross)
When you ask what did the Middle Ages ever do for us, remember: in the 830s the monks of Fulda Abbey copied this recipe for an almost-lasagna, Patina Apiciana, from De re coquinaria by Apicius (a signature dish, if you will). Full recipe below!

Class on Hobbes’s Leviathan did digress into us all imagining geopolitics as the world populated by godzillas, krakens, behemoths, mothras, and leviathans locked in eternal war. It’s the state of nature folks

It feels quite unreal, but *The End of College Football: On the Human Cost of an All-American Game* is officially out in the world as of today. Half a decade’s work finally on full display.

Please grab a copy, request at your library, and spread the word.

Ah a classic blunder— I’ve assigned much more reading than I’d thought for class, and I’m scrambling to find time to read something I’ve not read for a few years.

I finally saw The Green Knight, with Dev Patel. This medievalist thought it was amazing. I think they gave us such a plausible Gawain, and the way they handled the ending, which had me in all sorts of ways, was fantastic

The greatest damage AI has done to me as a teacher is simply the erosion of trust that I seem unable to shake, no matter how hard I have tried; it is deep, insidious, and unsought.
