Scott Parrott, Laura Cariola and I are editing a book series for the University of Exeter Press called "Language, Discourse, and Mental Health". Look at the piece of art that my students drew to explain how linguists model gender performativity by using Ochs (1992), Du Bois (2007), and Irvine and Gal (2000). We didn't have time and place to incorporate Bucholtz & Hall's tactics of intersubjectivity. #proudteacher

I created this slide to highlight the different research paradigms in Language, Gender & Sexuality. Any suggestions on how I can improve it?

Yesterday I gave my last English lesson to a turbulent class of 9th graders. I used @classcraftgame to manage their behaviors, and tried to bring the best out of them. Before leaving, they offered me this. I cried like a baby 🥰 (For some reason they called me "Mr. Teacher"🤣

Passed my viva today with minor corrections🥳🥳🥳 My examiners @_paulbaker_ and Sylvia Jaworska had excellent question and created an interesting conversation. The PhD was definitely the most challenging thing I ever did in my life, but so worth it! Now up to the next challenge!

The "OCD in Society" conference was a great success! 166 people from all over the world registered to the conference. Although not all of them were present, it's good to know that there is a growing interest in what we are doing 😀 #OCD #OCDinSociety

I’m finishing a paper about how heterosexual SO-OCD sufferers take, what I call, an ego-dystonic stance in their language use, and came up with these two illustrations to explain the processes😅 #ocd #egodystonic #cbt #discourse #linguistics

These beautiful sculptures by #JohnsonTang somehow illustrate what some people with #OCD and/or #intrusivethoughts might feel. I love how they represent the anxiety, violence, loss of identity, and mental confinement that are reminiscent of OCD. @ocdaction @TheOCDStories @OCDUK

Last minutes of the online forum I used to collect data (2684 messages = 430k words & 12 recorded interviews)! It was an instructive experience but I will refrain from doing online ethnography in the future. Despite advantage of data, you feel detached from participants.

I’ve been struggling to analyze my data due to COVID and FOMO insecurities. But some days I’m just happy to do it, esp. when I find that the deontic modality of “must” indexes the normative regulations of sexuality that gets intertwined with straight OCD sufferers’ doubt! #happy

Super annoyed with #corpuslinguistics software😡 Spent whole day trying to understand why %DIFF keyness scores in #LancsBox and #AntConc were different for the same corpora. As I understand: AntConc doesn’t use same formula as Gabrielatos & Marchi (2012) that #LancsBox uses.

First #CollocationNetwork ever 😅 it represents the words that are mostly co-occur with each other and hint at a dominant Discourse surrounding therapy in #OCD stories. Not really a surprise, but there is a hint that participants needed years to get diagnosed #CorpusLinguistics

Presented my #CADS research today in Montreal to a room filled with psychologists and OCD experts (incl. @FredAardema ). I was worried that they wouldn’t buy my stats, but they were all impressed with the results of the corpus-assisted discourse analysis😃

I hate receiving such messages from unknown people😡Not only do I find them rude (probably due to them assuming that I am obliged to respond to their request) but also the lack of specificity exasperates me... How do you respond to such messages?

Finished reading @DrMonnica and Chad Wetterneck's edited volume specifically on sexual obsessions in OCD. It contains the most up-to-date research review and it's a great resource to know more about its treatment! A must have for any therapist and sufferer! #ocd #hocd #pocd

Proudly represented @QMULLinguistics at #OCDcon today. I'm honored to have received the "2019 @IOCDF Poster Award Scholarship". This is proof that linguistics has a lot to offer to the study of OCD.

#OCDcon is such a supportive environment! Have had inspiring and heartbreaking conversations with people whose lives have been destroyed because of OCD! I wish I had access to such a community when I had severe OCD in 2012-13. @IOCDF
