Truth be told I have no patience for the concept of splitting infinities. I don't find it useful as a grammatical rule

Also less awkward to say, the first--better meter. The second hits less harmoniously to my admittedly untrained ear.

The ancient Greeks tried this. It did not work out great, but then again that was also 2,500 years ago. Who knows, maybe we're better now
