I've got cat steps in my living room. A metal worker friend made the brackets, and I paid someone to cut, sand and varnish the wooden shelves themselves. Honestly, if they're really good quality, then three for 65€ isn't so bad.

Attaching them to the wall firmly enough is the biggest challenge.

I think I was in that carriage a few days ago :)

Snowy morning in Berlin so I'm getting the train to work. Unfortunately I chose the carriage where the heating doesn't work :(

This lot was part of a clear out from a top cupboard last year. The handwriting is mostly mine.

Nyusha happily snoozing on my lap. She loves tummy strokes and moves her paws out of the way for better access!

My feet are on the coffee table.

Later, she yawned, stretched and fell off my lap to the floor with a surprised little miow 🥰

I just finished this astonishingly powerful book. Set in early 1940s Germany, in a small town near Munich. The main character is a young girl who's already experienced death and will come to see so much more.

I read it in record speed, because I couldn't put it down! 5*

@tubemapper.bsky.social one for your underground, overground collection. Always makes me smile :)

Just realised that the buff Manny in Doctor Who (whose main task was to flex while holding props or bits of scenery) is the same actor as the buff Sullivan in Boots (whose main task was to be a buff mean Marine).

Guns of more than one type were involved in both.

I baked a cake yesterday, because the weather was bad. It was so good!

Flourless orange peel polenta cake, served with pistachio butter, pomegranate seeds, crushed pistachios and vegan yoghurt.

They'll claim it's just kite flying - throwing it out there under the cover of anonymity to see what the papers think. Despicable.

#NowReading this.

None of the latest revelations in the Epstein files are a surprise to me. But reading it makes me shocked and saddened about just how many powerful and eminent men are paedophiles.

I did work experience at BBC TV Centre when I was 16; I kept a paper cup from the water dispenser as a souvenir. I found this at my parent's house last year while helping my my mum declutter, and it was in exactly the same place I left it when I left home, 33 years ago!

Excellent opinion about the latest BBC nonsense.

The editing was unfortunate, but didn't change the fundamental message: Trump incited the mob on January 6th.

My dad was a hoarder. After her died last year, I helped by getting rid of stuff – just found a carefully filed box of free cover disks from Computer Shopper, some time in the 90s, still in their plastic wrapping!

Look mom, real live "Save" icons :)

"Hallo mama/papa?" New number, but sent from a different number?

I'd say the scammers aren't really trying very hard any more 😂

Germans love 2nd hand clothes stores. But they almost always display in order of colour, not size. This makes no sense to me. It means I have to hunt through all of them, hoping for something that fits.

I don't go shopping for a specific colour t-shirt, I go shopping for a t-shirt that fits me!

I have one lazy but attention seeking; and one manic and attention seeking. Neither seeks world domination, just scritches on demand.

I've often thought Germany is quite cheap for drugstore items like shampoo and shower gel.

This map shows how much Dutch people can save by popping across the border to go to DM.

Germans are absolute sticklers for the rules, except when it comes to driving and parking. Then, it's a free for all. Can’t find a space for your massively oversized SUV? The pavement's fine :/

Get a Brother laser printer, they said. All your problems will be solved, they said.

It’s true, the printer now works. Just the computer doesn't know it.

I've never had so many driver problems as with this "super reliable" Brother laser. And never had to restart so often!

One of the things I'll never get used to is medical people expecting me to remember when I last had each essential vaccination (eg, tetanus); or to carry around my vaccination passport just in case.

I've got an insurance smartcard which could carry the info, but of course doesn't

Update: the finger is fractured, now it has to wear a little house for the next 4 weeks to keep it safe and sound.

When albee was a kitten, @eliotlovell.bsky.social and I taught him how to do high 5 for treats.

He taught himself how to catch food as I throw it in the air for him. He's better at catching it in his mouth than I am at throwing!
