I am chapter 9 in this lovely collection! I examine the overwriting of Elizabeth Siddall’s identity/agency by a medievalised persona constructed by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Rossetti sought to position himself as a successor to Dante by creating a Beatrice for himself in his own wife and muse.

What is your best student ‘hot take’ for an English lit essay, aka, a clear and funny ‘they did not read the book’? Mine is that Frankenstein is a heartwarming ‘enemies-to-friends-to-lovers’ tale. And let me tell you, they really went to town with their analysis. It was fucking great.

people who use goodreads: jeff bezos owns goodreads and if you want a better alternative there is a black woman owned company called storygraph that you can use to replace it. you can transfer all of your data from goodreads to storygraph and have your mind be free of trumpie jeff bezos! win win. 💙

Little tip for lit lecturers wanting to deter the use of GenAi: set an obscure poem/extract studied in class for the take home exam and omit the poet’s name…

I played around with ChatGPT and it throws out the wildest guesses. Note: I wasn’t seeking to catch them out, this was a post hoc revelation.
