I firmly oppose the government’s plans for compulsory digital ID cards.
This is an affront to our civil liberties, and will make the lives of minorities even more difficult and dangerous.

100% this. How the interaction of the 2004 GRA and the 2010 Equality Act should work was completely clear and explicit in 2010. Not to say this is a straight-up lie driven by bigotry.
Anything other than "this is not the intention of the 2010 act and I will bring forward legislation to correct this" is an outrage.
