My back went out this week; which is nothing new. The new part is that the doctor’s office staff have stopped telling me I’m too young for that to be happening. At least the lovely seniors at my water aerobics class still tell me I’m too young to be so broken. #fourtysomething

Alert 🚨 Congress is considering proposals that would reduce Medicaid funding! Medicaid is a critical lifeline for disabled Americans. Our friends @nhelp.bsky.social are hosting a day of action: Call Congress via the Protect Medicaid hotline at 866-426-2631 and tell them to protect Medicaid. No cuts!

Adding to this: someone's non/verbal status is not the whole picture & you in fact cannot know how much someone's life is impacted by their autism by how well they string together a sentence

Source: a pretty dang verbal autistic with other very profound support needs
Today's reminder: the autistic spectrum means each person has their own specific version of autism, shaped by their internal and external environment and life experience, expressed in a unique way.
It's all of this, not just one part. Autism can't be a linear scale going from less to more autistic.

I finished a little daisy #linocut! I tried using that pink rubber eraser-type carving material to see if it would be doable with my hand issues. It took multiple months to finish, but I did it! #disabledartist #disability

While talking to my therapist yesterday about autistic masking, she asked whether I mask in our sessions. And like, yeah, but I can’t tell you that without unmasking. Which I believe, my friends, is the point. Sigh. #therapy #disabled #autisticmasking

I finally have an appointment for autonomic testing! It is over six months away, but since my POTS tends to be worse in summer that is probably better anyway. #tilttabletest #pots

Anyone remember the fried egg, “This is your brain on drugs,” ad from the late 80’s? This piece makes me think of that commercial. This is my brain on flowers. #disabledartist #medicalimaging #dahlia

Going to Seattle for a Sunday afternoon MR Angiogram is not the day date of my dreams, but I suppose I’ll have more medical images for my art project. #chronicillness #disabledartist

My New Year’s resolution is to come up with a better answer than, “Hanging in there…,” when asked how I’m doing. Something that implies things may not be great without explicitly saying so. Any suggestions are welcome.

I am not much of a social media person, but I’ve made it over to Bluesky. I’m a forty-something queer, late diagnosed autistic, chronically ill artist and clothing designer. Hi!
