I still distribute readings in paper form & require students to annotate w/highlighter & pen. Many studies of the differences between digital v material reading practices demonstrate the benefits for comprehension / critical thinking. Physically engaging w/texts demands more of your brain.

I am absolutely witnessing some of these patterns as well in my college writing students. One thing that I don’t see mentioned anywhere yet in the conversation is the impact of students doing nearly all of their reading in digital form, by gazing at a screen.
