That's funny because from what I hear, China has been doing very well with AI despite (or maybe because) the AI space is quite regulated, a lot more than the US ... and one might say that it is somewhat cynical to read what China is doing through the lens of the US ... but what do I know.

I'm seeing this duality a lot (often with Eric Schmidt) - a strange mix of warning against the exact systems that they have either developed or capitalised on for the past decade, or that they are in the midst of developing. I am begining to think that extreme ambiguity in speech is an MO.
