I am chuffed to the point of unpleasantness to have a story in this year's Best American Short Stories, chosen by the wonderful @pronounced-ing.bsky.social!

It is also available in brown leather (which is cheaper, for some reason, and is meant to be worn with dyed ostrich feathers).

As promised: when I picked up my copy of Loving Day from BookPeople, they had stuck a sticker with my last name on the spine, over @matjohnson.bsky.social's. I have left it there ever since. It makes me laugh, as though I am lazily insisting I wrote this brilliant book.

Gonna take this to the airport to see where it will take me.

(Haven't lived at that address for 25 years.)

The White House made its Covid page look like a bad movie called Lab Leak, with Donald Trump as the titular leak. Full of vindictive lies & misinformation, but the graphic cracks me up. I look for laughs where I can.

As a rule, I prefer "eponymous" to "titular," but the latter seems right here.

Thought maybe I'd distract myself with reading.

I am not attuned to the World of Sports. Hand to God, I saw this photo & thought, huh? An Art-Spiegelman-related basketball team? I don't want to tell you how long it took me to understand.

Guys, I think my watch has decided that in order to make it in America, you have to be a fraud

At the Marquis Cornwallis Pub, you can tell that the English are the good guys by the color of their lightsabers.

I am dealing with a lengthy customer service issue with BestBuy (a minor nightmare considering the world's nightmares) & I am tired of staring at this guy, who is clearly not listening to me.

Look for this in a more attractive form in December 2025.

Part 2 in weird Wordle response: even I know the below isn't true. Wordle doesn't like plurals! I just am childish and like to make myself laugh.

I have nearly never posted anything Wordle-related, but: I'm proud:

As the grandchild of people with a store that catered to railroad workers, I'm disgusted & furious. It is not an overall if it comes to your waist.

No, I shall not be staying here.

If you wonder why I write: here is a picture of me & my parents, circa 1970. (Not sure where my older brother is!)
