Unfortunate result was the entire flight deck lighting was flickering. I checked the forms after talking with the flight engineer, and lo and behold, my screw isn't there anymore. Then I found the too long screw, and the gum, whose removals solved the lighting problem. Flight abort for crew rest.

I had an aircraft with a one of a kind system installed, measuring strain on the airframe. The cover for the recorder was missing a screw when I arrived on station. Supply back ordered for years. Guy tired of rewriting it in the aircraft forms sticks a screw in there with some gum on the back side.
