In May I turn 33—the age my great-grandfather Eugen Ruppert was when he went missing in WWII. A sculptor forced into war, his loss shaped my path in art. Now, on the brink of another war, our works meet in one exhibition, exploring trauma, legacy, loss, and the tangled threads of history. 🖤

Making a Home (2020), from Plexus—the inspiration for the show's title. A hair nest I made over a year, photographed in my grandma's blackberry bushes.

House and Universe, 2021, from Plexus.

Taken in the cellar behind the house, which always makes me think of Susanna Clarke's Piranesi when it's flooded. 🖤

The Unwanted, 2020, from Plexus.

My grandpa kept pigeons for about 70 years, until he was no longer physically able to care for them. This photo was taken on the sad day we had to say goodbye.

Supper (2021), from Plexus.

The chairs are a historical remnant from when the house was an inn. It's funny to think how social my ancestors were vs. their misanthropic great-great-...grandchild with social anxiety. Guess in their shoes I would also occasionally go poltergeist mode. 🤷‍♀️
