It's probably at least partially cope but this is really where I'm at with yesterday. The normies in your life (aka the voting majority) probably barely knew there was a shutdown going on unless they knew a federal worker personally. Maybe they'd heard the word shutdown said out loud at work
Just to be clear, anyone talking about this shutdown deal as if it matters in the midterms (as opposed to the 2026 primaries) is basically off their rocker. Nobody who pays enough attention right now to care or even understand is changing their vote.

Anecdotally, from living in a pretty blue NJ town, it REALLY felt like he was going to maybe squeak through. Springfield/Clark had Jack signs EVERYWHERE, and for a good while early on she was getting slammed on TV and seemed to not really care much about punching back
