If anyone wants a great read, Troy by Stephen Fry is one of my all time greats! Fantastic audiobook too—highly recommend both.

Starting with Bel Kaufman's Up the Down Staircase, probably the first grown-up novel I ever read (at age ten or so), and the book that taught me that voice—voices, really—is where the magic is.
