Newly back to pottery (after 25+years,) and obsessed. I also love plants and gardens. And animals.
This one took a while to fire because it was a bit of glaze on the bottom, so the studio wouldn’t fire it (ooops…) but it’s finished now! #pottery #sliptrail

Slurp bowls!

I gotta make more of these, I love them so much. (Even with the colors running under too thick clear…) #pottery

A couple more sippy cups. Does everyone else love to drink from these? Or is it just me? #pottery #sgraffito

On a “off” throwing day, I had to really fight to not waste some clay I had wedged together. This planter originally had a saucer attached… until I over-trimmed it. oops. #pottery

This was so easy and quick! I should have left the juicyfruit glaze off the top, but I see more of these in my future! #pottery #fauxbois

I made two raised kitty bowls, but we dropped one and broke it. And then dropped and broke the other! So I made three more… but with HANDLES. We’ll see how long they survive… #pottery

A new little favorite! A sippy cup with a honeycomb pattern carved into underglaze. #pottery #sgraffito

I made some self-watering pots!
Only… I fired it normally to cone 6 ish, so this Ironstone clay is pretty much vitrified, and not porous. Ooops #pottery

A bowl to match the mug! I like the green colors of the mug better, but the bowl also turned out nicely. #pottery #sgraffito

I like this little mug to be donated to a meals on wheels fundraiser. It was a bunch of different green underglazes brushed on randomly, then carved. I like the bright green colors.. #pottery #sgraffito

My wife said this looked “rustic”, which is not what I was going for.. ooops… still figuring out glaze techniques! #pottery #sliptrail

A black capped Chicago! This bowl is part of my peacock experiment, but the outside was decorated with Mishima and Amaco Semi-moist underglazes. #pottery #mishima

An experiment! The bowl on the left (darker clay) was glazed with the peacock method using V’s of flux. The light bowl on the right was glazed with W’s of flux. Same three rows of flux, same colors of Stroke n Coat in each, same Sandstone top coat. The V’s are sharper! #pottery #peacock

It had to be fired twice (apparently the clear glaze was too thick, so it needed a re-melt to clarify the cloudiness in areas…) but I think it’s finished! #pottery #sgraffito

My sliptrailed poppy bowl is done! It may seem obvious, but I just found out that thinner slip is much easier to use… ha! #pottery #sliptrail

My bookend pots survived the bisque, and the glaze firing!! I’ll have to remember that 1 coat zinc free clear turns out with expected results! #pottery #sliptrail
July 9, 2025 at 1:02 AM
Here it is finished! You can’t see the inside, but honestly, it’s not super exciting: it’s kind of a red-ish brown… #pottery #sgrafitto #origami
July 8, 2025 at 2:23 AM
I like this black clay. I got it pretty smooth while trimming, but I’m excited to see the roughness contrasting with the white clay origami after it gets fired. What should I glaze the inside with? #pottery #origami

At the end of the night, I decided to throw big. It’s walls are thicker than I’d hope, but this bowl currently weighs 10lbs. #throwbigorgohone #pottery
April 19, 2025 at 6:02 AM
Ii think I like throwing things because it’s quicker and a more even surface for decoration. Drawings just look so good on clay! #pottery #sliptrail

A set of book end planter pots are ready for the bisque firing. One had a crack in the side so crossing my fingers it survives the firing. #pottery #sliptrailing

I made a set of taco stands. I hope they dry without cracking: they’re supposed to be a gift for my sister, and I have two weeks to get them done. Ha! #pottery
April 12, 2025 at 4:45 AM
This pot is the tiniest little thing! The inlaid design looks super intricate, but it was MUCH bigger originally. And the snake’s tail disguises the side of the lid that doesn’t fit… #pottery #mishima #lemonstolemonade

The dog knocked a ceramic kitty bowl out of my hand and it broke on the floor. So I made a pair of kitty bowls. I should have made the ridges a bit deeper… @ao-pottery.bsky.social I’ll get it right next time! #pottery

I love the feel of unglazed clay after the glaze fire! This ceramic sippy cup for my sister feels so nice to hold. #pottery #sgrafitto
